Sources
Two editions of Maddalena Casulana’s Primo libro de’ madrigali a quattro voci are known: the 1568 first edition (Venice, Scotto) and a 1583 reissue (Brescia, Sabbio). In each case, the canto and tenore parts are extant, whereas the alto and basso parts are lost. Five madrigals were published in 1566–67 in anthologies that survive complete, and three of these were later copied into a manuscript, which now survives only in the canto part.
